The Analytics Adventures team, in partnership with Virginia Center for Addiction Medicine, won the Virginia Governor’s Datathon 2017. This year’s Datathon theme was Using Data and Analytics to Battle the Opioid Crisis. Teams were judged on impact, innovation, technical achievement and overall approach.
Analytics Adventures took the top spot, beating out 15 other teams, by working with staff from the Virginia Center for Addiction Medicine to build an application for youth, parents and front-line workers combating the opioid crisis first hand. The application provides youth with a means for community support and engagement, gives parents treatment and support options and lets emergency responders access treatment resources, connect with other service departments and enter in data around opioid use, overdose rates and arrests. The app also features a pairing service that will link local volunteers to youth looking for resources, so that mentors can coach and support youth directly.
Congrats also go out to Kearney & Company and Prince William County for taking the 2nd and 3rd place honors. Analytics Adventures and Virginia Center for Addiction Medicine will present its winning idea to State Health Commissioner Marissa Levine and Secretary of Health Bill Hazel.
